When Veganism Meets Business: Balancing Profit and Principles

By David Bell  •   1 minute read

The Japanese have a concept called Ikigai - finding the sweet spot between what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for.

For years, my veganism and my business life existed in separate spheres. One was about ethics, the other about profit. They didn't really overlap.

But watching the cultivated meat industry develop, I started seeing an opportunity. Here was a chance to align my ethical stance with my business experience. A way to be part of the solution.

It's not just about making money. The traditional meat industry is worth billions - but it's built on practices I fundamentally disagree with. Cultivated meat offers a different path.

The industry is still in its early days. Regulatory approvals are just starting to happen. The technology is still evolving. But that's exactly why it's interesting from a business perspective.

Sometimes the best opportunities come from spotting where the world is headed, not where it is now.

And all signs point to a future where meat production looks very different from today.
