My Vision for a Cultivated Meat Future

By David Bell  •   1 minute read

After 13 years of being vegan, I'm actually excited about meat again. That's not something I ever expected to write.

Not just any meat though. Cultivated meat. Real meat, just produced differently. No ethical compromises needed.

I can see how it might play out. First will come the simple products - burgers, nuggets, mince. Then, as the technology improves, more complex cuts.

The traditional meat industry won't disappear overnight. But it will gradually become less relevant. Why choose slaughtered meat when you can have the same thing without the ethical burden?

Pet food might lead the way. No emotional attachments to how it's produced, just practical nutrition. The UK's recent approval for trials feels like the start of something bigger.

Even my meat-eating friends are curious about it. They ask questions about when it's coming, how it'll taste, what it'll cost. The conversation has shifted from "why would anyone want that?" to "when can we try it?"

For the first time, we have a solution that could work for everyone. Vegans. Meat-eaters. Animals. The planet.
